IRCTC Launches SwaRail App: A Unified Digital Platform for All Railway Travel Needs
In a major step towards enhancing passenger convenience, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched its new mobile application, SwaRail. Designed as a one-stop solution for railway travellers across India, the app is now available for both Android and iOS users. Developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), SwaRail integrates a variety of services under a single platform, including ticket booking, live train tracking, food ordering, and complaint management.
Even though SwaRail is currently in its early access phase, it offers a fully functional experience from the outset. Existing IRCTC users can log in using their current credentials, while new users have the option to register directly through the app. The platform supports multiple Indian languages, ensuring accessibility for a diverse user base. A dedicated ‘My Account’ section allows passengers to manage personal information, view booking history, and customize preferences.
SwaRail goes beyond the basics of ticket booking. It allows users to reserve seats, purchase unreserved and platform tickets, track the live status of trains, check PNR status, and even view coach positions. Passengers can also order food from IRCTC’s partner vendors during their journey, submit refund requests for cancelled or missed trains, and raise complaints or feedback via the built-in Rail Madad feature.

A standout element of the app is its integrated R-Wallet, a secure digital wallet that facilitates quick and seamless payments within the app. Whether it’s booking a ticket, ordering food, or using other services, transactions through R-Wallet simplify the user experience while offering multiple payment options including UPI, debit/credit cards, and net banking.
Booking a ticket through SwaRail is straightforward. After logging in, users can access the ‘Journey Planner’ to choose between reserved, unreserved, or platform ticket options. By entering details like departure and arrival stations, travel date, class, and quota, passengers can browse available trains, select seats, and proceed to payment. Once confirmed, tickets are saved under ‘My Bookings’, from where they can be viewed, shared, or emailed.
With its sleek interface, intuitive design, and wide range of integrated features, SwaRail marks a significant milestone in IRCTC’s ongoing digital transformation efforts. By unifying multiple services under one app, it eliminates the need for separate platforms and provides a more connected, user-friendly travel experience. As updates and enhancements continue to roll out, SwaRail is set to redefine how millions of Indians plan and enjoy their train journeys making railway travel smarter, simpler, and more efficient.
